Hi Peter, If you interests deeper about glass and glaze chemistry you can find a lot of informations on the net. There is one web.mst.edu/~brow/PDF_structure1.pdfThe glazes /glasses are very complicated systems, structually and chemically too. As a potter I do not see too much reason to care with these things. A little change in the composition or firing ,the clay used,... and you can make investigations a year long to know ( if you are a well experienced glass chemist) to know what is happened in the fired glaze. Too much work ,money and time for almost nothing ! I remain at almost alchemiest methods. It is much more effective. Mix a new glaze batch, fire it . If it works OK ,if not I learned again something new what helps my experiments in the future. I think it is not reasonable to speaking about theories which are not based on accurate investigations, measurements (and big-big theoratical knowings) I hope so I did not hurt you by my words,I do not have the intention !

Hi Ferenc The alkymist way, you mention, is the way I have being doing my trials to now, and it have given some result, but when one think of the astronomical number of different combos, you have to do before you have tryed it all. then you maybe have a neat number of recepie, but you almost also have a fail rate that dont sell well. I dont have the equipment to do test at a academic level so I cant subsentiate my teory, just se if it has a bearing on the result. this is one of the resons that I am a member of this forum, to gather information and discuss my teory to se if there is something in it. But you, I think, do not make a trial with a combo unless that you have an idear on the result beforehand, other wise it is like a blind man to make a good crystalline glaze. I have a lot of teories some pan out, other dont But if one of these can make me an elegant curve on a sharp corner then i have won some kiln time and material. I hope that I havent offended you all with my bold assumtion and ideas this was not my intend and Ferens I am glad for your thoughts on this, we are not so different from our perspective at all Peter

Hi, thank you for your reply, I have been researching crystalline firing for about two years n have only had a couple of successful firing. Beautiful work, you did an amazing work with the vase. Regards Marj
