at least in the crystals. soak it in coffee for a little while... the crystal color will come back permanently. the background stays though. we are currently etching again to see if they will lose thier color again

Hi Greg -
I'm going to try this - but it's 'counter intuitive'. Etching causes Cu mostly to leach out of the glaze, causing color change. Coffee is acidic, so it should just cause more etching - I can't figure how that could result in a return of the original color -
Any idea what's going on??

yea i dunno arnie... i took a pic... but im not at the computer to upload it. ill try to upload it this weekend. pam had a mug she had coffee in and it got two drips that ran over the side and it dried like that... she left it for days... and now the drips are permanent through the crystals. we even soaked it in acid for 5 hours and it didnt fix it. we are gonna do a whole day soak but havent yet.

Here is the pic Arnie...
where the drips are is about the color the crystals were before etching. the drips didn't affect the bg though.

Hey Greg,
I think you might be looking at a good old fashioned coffee stain. If you clean the cup with bleach, does it go back to normal?
