might as well I guess on the new forum. Here we are again, starting a new adventure (all over again I guess for many of you.) The previous forum was my first. I am so thankful to Mr. Phil Hamling for that. I was kinda lost when I first got into crystalline glazes and I came across his webpage, which led me to here (or there I guess.) It has been an amazing journey since and I have learned so much (and still am!) from all of you. A little about myself... I currently don't know what I am doing in life. But I never really know what I am doing anyways so I guess it's ok. My career path once lied in special effects for film but due to stuff I have been trying to change that to crystalline ceramics but not without much difficulty. My wife Pamela plays with the crystals along side me. I love sports, I love LEDs, I sorta play the bagpipes and I love crystals. G oh and my name is greg beckman. not beckham like the soccer player.

I remember when you were Grasshopper! Just ran across an old email the other night that we shared a few years ago, Greg. Hoping all is well with you and Pamela and that you are loving the ride... after all, it's all about loving the ride!

Hi Holly!!! The Grasshoppa was not me. He was around before my time on the forum and before I was even doing crystals. I don't actually know his real name unfortunately.
So insanely obsessed with this still and definitely loving it. Currently am seriously loving reduction so much. Have so much I want to do and try still... can't seem to find the time.
Things are good. I know in the past I have said I wasn't really the teacher type, but I am actually going to teach a class in crystalline coming up soon. I am pretty excited about it.

The hoppa was unforgettable. Of course I can't remember his name.

Oh there's my ancient memory thing again, Greg! Somehow, I thought you were grasshopper first, before Mohawk Piper became your better known name! OK, wonder what ever happened to the hopper?! So glad you are enjoying the reduction game, and best of luck on the course you are doing! I've really enjoyed teaching crystalline. It's especially fun in your home studio, where you can be more certain of the results you'll be able to achieve - in your own kiln... and see SO many smiles on kiln opening... Will you be at your own studio, or are you going out for it?

The Hoppa was Nathan Gartz.
I remember that dude. He visited me at our shop, then drove his motor cycle to my house in the POURING rain.
I also remember Jesse Hull, and a few others, and one kid, Neil was his first name, who John Tilton called out for copying my vase shapes. He finally nailed one and then was never heard from again.

P.S.
Neil Simak was his name.

Hi Holly, the teaching thing will be at Higher Fire Clayspace which is kinda like the clay art school around here I guess. So it won't be from my own studio. Although it shouldn't be too much different. We go to the same place for our materials (most of them anyways) and they will be using the same clays. We will be doing the firings in Skutts (not sure the models) but I am pretty familiar with Skutts and I am able to pretty consistently get similar results between two pretty different kilns at home (size wise) so I am pretty confident. Albeit nervous! Anyhow, until next time!

Piper,
Use your own batch of cones, at a programmed rate of rise per hour, then your regular cooling rate, your own clay and glaze and all will be well.
Share this philosophy and people will accept it and learn from it.
Regardless of the Dragon and the lies that the numbers hold, the truth is told when it is you that watch the cones fold.

The class is a 6 week class. I dont remeber off the top of my head but I think 16 ppl max. One 3 hr sesh each week. Cones yes. Mine? I think ill use theirs (as well as all the other materials) as they will be supplying them at no cost to me. Hopefully I am not wrong, but with the length of the overall class and time to do testing before hand I am most certain we can work out some nice glazes by the time it is over
