So this is the first time I have ever seen this code & all it says is that the temperature was decreasing in the last ramp of a cone fire. It also says the the kiln-sitter may have shut the kiln off if the kiln is controlled by a separate wall unit. Well that doesn't apply to my situation, so I was just wondering what the cause could be? I peeked in and the glazes hadn't come anywhere close to maturing and I didn't see anything obvious that would have caused a failure. Anybody have any experience with this error & can point me in the right direction? jhp

How many firings on the elements, and what do they look like? Maybe one has failed. I'd do a resistance test of each element, the top and bottom elements should read about the same, and all of the middle elements should read about the same. How many firings on the relays, and what do they look like? If they are totally black maybe one has failed. Does the thermocouple seem to be working?
You could turn the kiln on for a minute, then turn it off, and see if each element is getting hot.

Thanks William, I bought this kiln used and it is actually an L&L and it was pristine when I bought it and I haven't put that many firings on it. It was a manual kiln & my KM 818 was in sad shape(mainly from changing elements) & so I took the controller off of the Skutt & put it on the L&L. I call it my SkiLL kiln now. The S tc looks untouched but maybe has failed inside the protection tube although the readings are fine. I do wonder though as when I hit enter to get rid of the error, the temp that came up was 1748. The controller is set for celsius, so that didn't make sense as I thought that it was supposed to display the temp when the error occurred. If it was reading farenheit, that would be plausible, but not celsius.I will have to check the relays & see how they look. jhp

34 Error Codes Descriptions Causes Correction E- 8 When using the CONE FIRE MODE, the temperature is decreasing during the last ramp segment. If this a KilnSitter Kiln using a Wall Mount Controller, KilnSitter may have shut off the kiln

So one of the relays was bad, but I am replacing both. I wanted to replace the relays as they went out with SSR's. I have the SSR's, fins & fans but I would have to modify the box & wiring and I don't have time to do that now. Anyways, everybody wanted between $25 to $27 for the relays , but I found them at Newark for $9.90/each so I am stocking up. Just thought I would share in case anybody else wants to stock up, too. jhp
