Awhile back there was a refrence to FF413 being better on porcelain and FF644 better for stoneware. I am using a Plainsman clay body H570 (white plastic stoneware). I am wondering if 644 just needs a higher temperature on the clay I'm using than 413 or wether the 644 is actually a better fit for stoneware than 413?
I'm firing to a top temp of 2340F and have been having problems with pinholing on the rims and upper sections of my pots. I was thinking that the liner glaze was the problem but now wondering if it more likely the clay body as the pinholing is definatley worse with glazes made with FF413.
I'm curious what you think.
Thanks, Lance

Hi Jose, I am not sure what you mean? The "stoneware" body that I use is considered porcelanious in that it is very plastic and fires white and smooth. It is made with Canadian and North American clays and not grolleg clay. We don't make anything with molds, everything is wheel thrown.
I do not put an engobe on the pot unless it is using an inclusion stain to get a red background and then I put the engobe on damp pot.
I have noticed that glazes with 644 frit stays on our pots better with bigger crystals than 413 frit. There was also no problem with pin holes so I am wondering if the 644 frit is more compatible with our clay body.
Thanks, Lance

Hi Lance ok, I thought that you wear body stoneware with porcelain slip, I use this when I work with 644 I personally think that the frit 644 works best with stoneware, with the frit 413, I work better with porcelain sorry for my very bad English Jose
