I have a question for everyone, I would like to buy an 8" flat lap grinding disk to clean off the glaze on bottoms of pots- what Gritt size would anyone recommend? 60grit seems like it would be a bit harsh, I have diamond pads for the final finishing, just want to know what people are using to get the bulk off...

We use 90 grit diamond disk's, they are very agressive. Avi sells them I used Avi's 120 ... they were nice... and recently I ordered some from China ... also 120 .. but what I got (and didn't use them yet...) seems 90 or evel less...although they are (hand-)marked 120 ... I had asked Glenn Woods exactly the same question, when we met in Spain recently... and he told me 150 to 180.... conclusion... anything between 120 and 180 will be fine!

Thanks for letting me know about the ones you got from China, I was just looking at some grinding disks on eBay that are made in China, they did look cheaper than others I have seen from Lapidary Suppliers but I wondered about the quality.

Thanks Avi for all of that information but I have already ordered one yesterday from a Lapidary place!! If I hadn't already bought one I would have gone for it.... went for 180 grit but will have to sort out my own water dripped..like the soda bottle idea!
