just cuz. new pieces, old glaze. born today. didn't check the cone often enough. overfired by about a half a cone (elements might be dyin...) everything grew very slowly (im assuming as a result of the overfire.) had to tack on two extra hours. G

It may be an old glaze but still very beautiful. I notice that you and I are designing our lids almost exactly alike. The same little flat area on the rim to keep the glaze on the lid and not going off the edge and the outside edge of the raised part matching up to the jar mouth and the dome part trying to compliment the curves of the pot. Well done. I like them a lot. Mike

Dang yer gittin' good!
How low do you go for that dark ring, if I may ask?

thanks fellas.
the two darker rings towards the center are 20 min. the last outside ring is 50 min. i do strongly believe ramping back up really helps darken that ring up. as the rings that traveled the farthest distance in temperature are the darkest, regardless of hold length. speculated not from just this firing but from several in the past. notice the outside ring is almost thinner than the darker rings even though it was held more than twice as long. i think thats cuz the other two are also getting that time added on the way back up.
also, notice the rings on the second jar are much lighter and a bit more subtle. that one is coleman porcelain whereas the first jar and last vase are bmix. the third piece (first vase) is a miller porcelain slip on a bmix body.
