I am 52. I studied Architecture at Rice University in Houston, beginning in 1975, and have worked as a Draftsman. I was a US Navy electrician for 4 years, and afterwards, I worked as a Union electrician for 12 years. Towards the end of that 12-year stint I began taking courses at The University of Texas in Austin with the goal of completing the degree I started at Rice. I had some Studio Art requirements to fill, so I enrolled in an introductory ceramics course. That course changed my life. While a student, one of my ceramic sculptures took first place in the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts National Ceramic Competition, which is a pretty big deal. Upon graduating from UT in 1993 I became a full-time studio potter. I was a poor salesman, and I never made ends meet until I began producing crystalline glazes, which pretty much sold themselves.
I also built and moderate this forum. The original Crystalline Glaze Forum was created and moderated by Fara Shimbo beginning in 2003. Fara lost interest in the original forum in 2006, at which time I built a new Crystalline Glaze Forum. The host site of that forum unexpectedly pulled the plug at the end of 2008, and I subsequently rebuilt the forum in its present form.
I look forward to meeting, hearing from, and sharing with everyone on the Forum.
This is a free-hosted forum, meaning that it costs nothing to run (but time), and likewise, I receive nothing from it. I have no control over, nor do I see any revenue from the banner ads at the tops of the pages.
