Hi all.
I have three large bowls (10-12 pounds of clay) that I am getting ready to glaze. Two need to be food safe on the inside and I was hoping to get some suggestions for a more interesting liner glaze than the white glaze recipe that I usually use. I also work with Amaco’s Potters Choice glazes fired to cone 6 and the Amaco website has pics of several of those fired to cone 10 and they are actually quite beautiful. I am worried about the crystalline glaze interacting to them at the rim. I have used Coyote satin glazes on the outside of bowls that I have done and the crystalline glazes that I use (Fara’s Celestite and Bory 1) work really well with them. I would rather not use a satin finish on the interior of these bowls. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hughley:
I will assume your current white liner glaze has 10-12% zirco in it? Simply remove the zirco and use stains for instance, or perhaps add some oxides. You seem satisfied with the result, just change up the colorants. T

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll try that. I did a couple of small test bowls using some Amaco potters choice glazes and they actually seem old up very well to the firing schedule, so that’s another option for me now.
My liner glaze is here: Whiting. 20% Custer Feldspar. 40% EPK. 10% Silica. 30% Zircopax. 6%
