I've been in love with throwing for the last 20 years since I first tried it in high school. I've always loved simple forms and glazes that make them unique so it's only appropriate that I would end up back in the crystalline glaze rabbit hole. Since my son was born, I have ventured into the world of mold making and slip casting. It allows me to spend time with my family while also getting some forms made that I can test glazes on.
I only played with Crystalline glazes for a little while in college. Unfortunately I was having to use hard brick gas kilns before I even fully understood how to fire a gas kiln much less why it wouldn't be conducive to the Crystalline glaze process. I got some fun results but since it wasn't necessarily related to the direction my work was headed at the time, I had to leave it behind so I could focus on getting my degree. I'm excited to get back at it at this stage in my life now that I have discovered my passion for the chemistry behind it all. I manage the retail store for Trinity Ceramic Supply in Dallas so I don't have as much time to test new glazes as I would like but hopefully this site will help me stayed inspired to make the time.
Thanks for making this site available!
