I just spent an extended amount of time going through the gallery. Avi, it is apparent you spent a great deal of time organizing this presentation. What a pleasure it was viewing the work of many of those who post on this forum. Given the quality of these pieces not just in glaze, but also in form: everyone deserves to be presented in a museum style manner. I bought this topic up in the old forum: but this presentation affirms my assertion that there is a threshold were pieces transcend the label of pottery into realm of art. Art requires more than just form, more than just glaze: it requires an eye for proportion and content. If a single form can capture your attention, evoke emotions, suggest idealism, or remind you of a period of time or event: then it is no longer pottery, but rather art. Only an artist can express emotion with a stroke of a brush: even if that brush is loaded with carefully planned glaze.
With all that said, I do want to single out one particular artist. Not that his pieces exceeded the talent or quality of the others, but rather due to his age. There have been periods since this glaze first arrived in the late 1800's that it disappeared from the world's stage. It is good to know that there are those in the next generation that will carry it forward and pass it along to the generation after them. So Adam, it is good to see your work in this gallery; it will be you along with a few other youngins among us that will pass the torch in the future. I have noticed your talent before, as I have with Greg and Evan. Perhaps there are others in the forum that I am not familiar with as of yet, I in no wise mean to exclude them. Anyone who is bold enough to wade into the crystal ocean deserves kudos for even attempting an excessively frustrating glaze.
On the final note; was glad to see a picture of John Tilton. I am now relieved to know that I am not the only grandpa that has long hair. Woodstock.. baby!!
