Many thanks to Jim and Koz, who both suggested I lower the temperature from my first try. I pulled these out of the kiln this morning. Just dropped from ^10+ to ^9. Thanks again, guys.

Thanks Tom. When I opened the kiln I began to sense the addiction that seems to take hold when crystals grow. I still have one obstacle to surmount, however.
Being a photographer, I'm a bit puzzled yet as to how to best display the surfaces, since it seems that the standard diffuse lighting used in most commercial photography doesn't quite work well with these. I need to fiddle with my lighting to see if I can make them pop.
